Astig na Mama-Turned-Papa Top 10

(mula sa listahan ng "Ang Pinaka", QTV 11)

10 - Andrea del Rosario (Rome and Juliet, 2006) --- havent really seen the movie but all the reviews i've heard and read have alot of not-so-good things to say about the movie.

9 - Desiree del Valle (Tuli, 2005) --- thought Desiree del Valle wanted to free herself form any lesbian connection : )

8 - Sunshine Dizon (Sabel, 2004) --- played a butch and was raped. Wonder why mababa ang ranking 'coz she's really good here, according to friends who have watched Sabel. A friend says she should be getting higher ranking than Mylene 'coz Rome and Juliet kinda sucks.

7 - Judy Anne Santos (Sabel, 2004) --- really need to watch Sabel tuloy : )

6 - Mylene Dizon (Rome and Juliet, 2006)

5 - Lolita Rodriguez (Jack and Jill, 1954) --- I don't really think she should be here 'coz "Jack" in the movie is not really a lesbian, tomboyish lang. But the panelists said she's outstanding here 'coz at that time, kinda breakthrough ang ganitong roles dahil hindi pa naman ganun ka-"out" ang society and then Lolita accepted it for a starring role pa. Hindi rin daw flambouyant ang pagkakaganap, hindi pilit at exag, and most of all, guwapo raw s'ya rito, in fairness. The "Jack and Jill" movie I was able to watch starred Sharon Cuneta and Herbert Bautista. Moreover, I don't think Sharon will agree on a role like that. Buti pa si Nora Aunor...

4 - Nora Aunor (And T-bird at Ako, 1982) --- Ate GUY played a lipstick butch here. Isang lawyer na mai-inlove sa kliyente niya (who happened to be VILMA SANTOS). For the panelists, sexy n'ya raw na-carry ang pagiging lesbian with the long hair, polo, and slacks. kaya lang, dahil hindi sa mejo conservative pang society natin nun, her character ended up in a hetero relationship din in the end. May mga chismis din na niluluto ito noon for a remake ng Star Cinema at sina Judy Ann at Claudine ang gaganap. Sana matuloy :D

3 - Cherry Pie Picache (Kaleldo, 2006) ---- in fairness, na-crush-an ko si Cherry Pie rito magaling naman talaga siyang artista and I think, kahit ano'ng role, kaya n'ya.

And most of all, really beautiful and sexy She'll make a very delicious lesbian 'pag nagkataon. Haha!

1 - Cherrie Gil (Manila by Night / City After Dark, 1980) --- Panelists said she's a handsome lesbian here kahit "tomboy sa kanto" ang role. At first you'd think daw na ang isang glamorosang Cherry Gil ay hindi kayang magpaka-"jologs" but she was really remarkable here, according to them.

Ngayon ko na-realize how much i should be catching up on movies like these. The last Filipino gay film i've watched was "Duda" pa. Geez. Nakakahiya sa sangkabadingan at sangkatungrilan.

But it's happy to know na dumarami na ang mga pelikula which star homosexual characters and tackle gender issues. I just wish to watch a film that would really show lesbian lovemaking in its truest sense --- not the pornographic kind or the kind that pleases the male market or the general public, but one that captures the intensity and depth of the act, beyond mere lust. A union that is awakening, passionate, and ethereal.

Just how it is in the REAL queer world.

Mama-turned-Papa

In showbiz, actresses always reach a crossroad where they must choose to accept more challenging and career-changing roles and one of which is tackling a lesbian role. But who among our female stars have pulled off the most effective, most memorable, and most ‘astig’ performance of a lesbian role in Philippine cinema?

Last year, we listed down the most memorable gay performances of male actors in “Ang Pinaka: Fabulous Papa-turned-Mama.” This Sunday, we bring you the much-anticipated companion episode with “Ang Pinaka: Astig na Mama-turned-Papa!”

Joining Host Rovilson Fernandez are guest panelistas: Film director Gil Portes, UP Professor Roselle Pineda, Production designer Bong Gacho, UP Professor/Young Critics’ Circle member Nonoy Lauzon, and UP Professor/Writer Libay Linsangan Cantor.

Who among our female stars are the most believable butch and femme? Which gender-bending performance will emerge as the ‘Ang Pinaka: Astig na Mama-turned-Papa?’ Find out this Sunday on ‘Ang Pinaka,’ June 15, 2008, at 6PM on QTV 11 (channel 24 on Sky and Home cable, channel 15 on Destiny cable, and channel 19 on Sun cable).

I have no idea kung anu-ano ang ipalalabas ng QTV on that episode pero ako, I'm looking forward to watching some clips from old Pinoy movies na may lesbian characters :D I think Vilma Santos played one before. Pero for the more recent movies, we have:

Mylene Dizon & Andrea del Rosario in "Rome and Juliet"

ROME AND JULIET follows the romantic journey and soul mating of two straight women caught in a web of forbidden love. Juliet (a conservative pre-school teacher; played by Andrea del Rosario) is a bride to be who befriends and hires Rome (a liberated businesswoman; played by Mylene Dizon) as her wedding planner. As they go through the preparations, Rome and Juliet develop a deep friendship, a soulful connection and a love that is physically consummated. But conflicts arise when Marc, the groom who is a young politician, shockingly discovers the ongoing relationship between the two women. Angered and humiliated, Marc calls off the wedding and a huge scandal explodes, leaving Rome and Juliet in a state of emotional turmoil. Not long after, Juliet is driven away from home by her mother, gets fired from work and later becomes a victim of a road mishap that puts her in a coma. But in the end, despite all the trials and hurdles Rome and Juliet's unconventional love for each other remains strong and intense. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0961746/plotsummary)

Yasmien Kurdi in "Pitong Dalagita"

PITONG DALAGITA is a story about seven teenagers who commited suicide due to their personal desires, fears, insecurities, and self-hatred. Yasmien played a lesbian.

At least they tried to make history. At kahit hindi ko pa napapanood ang buong pelikula, sa tingin ko naman, it is a decent attempt to do a first.

I highlighted the parts I like best.

"BABAE AKO"
Lyrics: Joey de Leon
Music: Ogie Alcasid

babae ako
ano bang dapat kong gampanan
sa daigdig na ating ginagalawan
ang hangganan ko ba'y hanggang saan

babae ako
ako ba'y mayro'ng kapangyarihan
o ako'y isa lamang na bukal
na pagkukunan ng pagmamahal

nais kong lumipad na may sariling bagwis
nais kong marating pangarap nang mabilis
nais kong manguna sa mga maya
para makita ang bagong umaga
ngunit kailan pa
gusto ko na
ngayon na

may galit ako
ngunit pag-asa'y nasa puso ko
bukas ang hamog makikita mo
hihigupin niya ang paru-paro..
ang paru-paro
